Modern Backyard Design

A modern backyard design built around a raised deck, a sunken fire pit and string lighting overhead — effectively an outdoor living room laid out for evening use rather than daytime gardening. Low landscape lighting along the path leading to the deck extends the space’s usability well past sunset.

The fire pit is the room’s real focal point, with the surrounding seating arranged around it the same way a sofa arrangement would face a fireplace indoors.
